Director of Emergency Management
Over his 35-year career, Ernie Polsom has been responsible for the delivery of fire, emergency management and ambulance operations for five municipalities and one province. He started out as a firefighter in The Pas, Manitoba and progressed through the ranks to Deputy Chief. In 1995, he accepted the position of Fire Chief and Director of Protective Services for the Town of Taber, Alberta and progressed through other positions, including Fire Chief for the Cities of Leduc and Regina.

In 2002, Ernie became the Director of Field Operations for the Fire Commissioner’s Office, and later, the Alberta Emergency Management Agency until October 2009. In this role, he was responsible for providing leadership in the disciplines of fire services, emergency management, and search and rescue. Much of Ernie’s senior career has been focused on the development of integrated operating systems including mutual aid and regional service delivery models. Ernie has focussed on the development of community based partnerships to further the advance of sustainable emergency management delivery systems.

Currently Ernie is working for the City of Lloydminster as the Manager of Emergency Management Operations and DEM. He is working on a number of projects, including the overhaul of the City’s emergency management program, including the Emergency Social Service Plans and the development of a comprehensive bi-provincial mutual aid agreement.
